Media Release - 21 April 2006

Application by Metro for inclusion in the JNRS

In January 2006 the Dublin freesheet Metro applied for membership of the Joint National Readership Survey (JNRS). Having considered Metro's application the JNRS Management Committee concluded that Metro did not satisfly the requirements for admission to the survey.

The JNRS measures the readership of nationally available paid-for titles and is open to paid-for titles which are specifically produced for the Irish market and receptive to advertising placed by advertisers for that market, so that it is enabled to be, or become, an advertising platform for the Republic of Ireland market.

The requirements for inclusion were approved by the Competition Authority in 2002 on the basis that they are objective, transparent and non-discriminatory. Persons interested in joining the JNRS should contact the Chairman Sean O'Meara for an application form and details on how to join, together with information on subscriber fees.
